Data Center Cooling

Russ Hoppes is Technical Sales Manager for Vertiv.


Presentation Summary:

Cooling represents a significant portion of the energy consumed in information technology spaces.  We will discuss trends in data center cooling and identify strategies for saving energy in existing IT spaces as well as new rooms.  We will look at methods of economization (air / fluid / refrigerant) and the advantages / disadvantages of each method.

Russ Hoppes

Russ Hoppes is Technical Sales Manager for Vertiv, focusing on Liebert Thermal Management products.  Russ has over 35 years of experience in the computer room cooling industry for Liebert / Emerson Network Power / Vertiv.  He has held positions in Engineering, Applications, International Sales, and Domestic Sales.  Russ has extensive in-the-field knowledge, working with key market segments and customers across the Midwest and Southeast USA, with a passion for helping customers achieve higher levels of energy efficiency.  Russ has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University, and a Master of Business Administration from Ohio University.  He has spent his career in the data center industry. 

Vertiv is a global leader in designing, building and servicing critical infrastructure that enables vital applications for data centers, communication networks and commercial and industrial facilities.  Vertiv participates in ASHRAE TC9.9 which establishes thermal guidelines for Mission Critical Facilities, Data Centers, Technology Spaces, & Electronic Equipment.  Vertiv has also participated in committees to establish standards for our industry, including ASHRAE 127 (Method of Testing for Rating Computer and Data Processing Room Unitary Air Conditioners) and AHRI 1360 (Performance Rating for Computer Room and Data Processing Room Air Conditioners).
