This Month’s Technical Program - Rich Combes will present: Improving RTU Energy Performance Under DOD's ESTCP Program

Commercial Rooftop Units as a National Target for Building Energy Efficiency Improvements

In 2013, ASHRAE partnered with the U.S. Dept. of Energy (DOE) and the Retail Industry Leaders Assn. (RILA) to create the Advanced RTU Campaign (http://www.advancedrtu.org/).  The Campaign is designed to promote energy efficiency improvements in commercial rooftop unit A/C equipment, because new RTUs use less than 50% of the energy used by a 10-year old RTU.  It is estimated that $1 billion year in energy costs could be saved if all commercial 10 – 20 ton RTUs in the U.S. were replaced with current technology.  While most efficiency improvements for current RTU equipment are focused on improved unit controls and performance monitoring, right-sizing, and economic modeling for older unit replacement, Advantek Consulting (http://advantekinc.com/index.php), a small engineering firm in Melbourne FL, has developed new technologies for further RTU efficiency improvements.

The November meeting presentation will provide an update on the national Advanced RTU Campaign and will also provide a summary of Advantek technologies for RTUs, ClimaStat® and EER Optimizer®, being demonstrated in Dept. of Defense projects.  One of the demonstration sites for Advantek’s RTU improvements is the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort, SC.

Please be sure to register online. If you do not register online, you may pay by cash or check at the door; however, online registration is preferred.
